OVERVIEW
Many businesses in Oman still run older ERP and accounting systems: versions that are no longer supported, locally built systems or applications whose original developers are gone. Fawtara does not make an exception for these systems, but it does not require you to replace them either.
We connect legacy systems in the least intrusive way possible, by reading invoice data from reports, exports, database views or interface tables, then converting it to PINT OM outside the old system. This keeps risk low and avoids changes to code nobody wants to touch.
Legacy data often needs more attention. Customer VAT numbers may be stored in free text, tax codes may be inconsistent, and some fields may not exist at all. We fill those gaps with mapping rules and, where needed, a small enrichment step before invoices are sent.
If you are planning to replace the system later, we design the integration so the same accredited service provider and process carry over to your new ERP.
CAPABILITIES
Data read from exports, views or interface tables.
Missing or inconsistent fields filled with clear rules.
A small integration layer between the old system and your provider.
The process carries over when you replace the ERP.
COMMON CHALLENGES
These are the issues we see most often. Each one is planned for from the start, so it does not surface in the week before go-live.
01
The original vendor may not provide a Fawtara update.
02
Changing old code can introduce new problems.
03
Older systems may not store all required data.
04
Knowledge of the system may sit with a few people.
THE FAWTARA MODEL
Fawtara, the Oman Tax Authority's e-invoicing programme, uses a Peppol-based five-corner model. Invoices are issued in the PINT OM format and travel through an accredited service provider, which delivers them to the buyer and passes the tax data to the OTA. Invoices cannot be sent from an ERP directly to the OTA.
Step 1
In your ERP, accounting or billing system.
Step 2
Checked against PINT OM and Omani VAT rules.
Step 3
Your accredited service provider exchanges it over Peppol.
Step 4
Delivered to the buyer's own service provider and system.
Step 5
Tax data reaches the Oman Tax Authority through Fawtara.
HOW IT WORKS
We document the systems, data and approvals involved in your invoicing.
Fields, rules and exceptions are defined against PINT OM and Omani VAT rules.
The connection is built and tested with real invoices, including the edge cases.
After go-live, statuses and exceptions are monitored so nothing is missed.
WORKED EXAMPLE
How invoices from an older system reach Fawtara without changing its code.
See It in a Demo →WHY IT MATTERS
Every in-scope invoice is issued in the PINT OM format from your go-live date.
Data is checked before it leaves your system, not after a buyer or the OTA flags it.
E-invoices are stored electronically, ready for audits and OTA requests.
Comply now and replace the ERP when it suits you.
No changes to code that is hard to maintain.
The same process works with your next system.
IN DETAIL
BEFORE YOU GO LIVE
Having these ready before the assessment shortens the project and keeps your Fawtara go-live on schedule. Our free Fawtara readiness checklist is a good place to start.

Usually yes. We read the invoice data without changing the old system, then convert and send it through your accredited service provider.

That depends on your wider plans. We can connect the legacy system now so you comply on time, and move to a new ERP when you are ready.
Fawtara uses PINT OM, the Omani specification of the Peppol International invoice model, exchanged as structured XML through an accredited service provider.
No. Under the five-corner model, e-invoices travel through an accredited service provider, which delivers them to the buyer and passes the tax data to the OTA.
It depends on your system, the number of invoice types and the quality of your data. We give you a dated plan after the assessment, working back from your Fawtara phase.
