OVERVIEW

What This Means for You

Many businesses issue invoices from systems that are not standard ERPs: custom billing platforms, industry applications, subscription systems or e-commerce back ends. For these, an API integration is usually the cleanest way to meet Fawtara requirements.

Your system sends invoice data through a secure API. The data is converted to PINT OM, validated against Fawtara rules and passed to your accredited service provider, which delivers it to the buyer and reports to the OTA. Results come back as API responses or callbacks.

We help design the API flow end to end: which data your system sends, how errors are returned, how retries work and how statuses are stored, so developers have a clear specification and your finance team has reliable results.

API integrations suit businesses that want real-time feedback, high volumes and full control over how e-invoicing fits into their own applications.

CAPABILITIES

What the API Integration Covers

Invoice submission

Send invoices, credit notes and debit notes through one API.

Validation results

Immediate feedback on data errors before delivery.

Status updates

Delivery and rejection statuses through callbacks or polling.

Secure access

Authenticated, encrypted connections with access control.

COMMON CHALLENGES

What Usually Gets in the Way

These are the issues we see most often. Each one is planned for from the start, so it does not surface in the week before go-live.

01

Custom data models

Your system's fields need a clear mapping to PINT OM.

02

Error handling

Rejections must be handled without creating duplicates.

03

Volume spikes

The design must cope with month-end and campaign peaks.

04

Developer time

Your team needs a clear specification to build against.

THE FAWTARA MODEL

How Oman E-Invoicing Works

Fawtara, the Oman Tax Authority's e-invoicing programme, uses a Peppol-based five-corner model. Invoices are issued in the PINT OM format and travel through an accredited service provider, which delivers them to the buyer and passes the tax data to the OTA. Invoices cannot be sent from an ERP directly to the OTA.

Step 1

You issue the invoice

In your ERP, accounting or billing system.

Step 2

It is validated

Checked against PINT OM and Omani VAT rules.

Step 3

Your provider sends it

Your accredited service provider exchanges it over Peppol.

Step 4

The buyer receives it

Delivered to the buyer's own service provider and system.

Step 5

The OTA is informed

Tax data reaches the Oman Tax Authority through Fawtara.

HOW IT WORKS

How We Implement It

01

Scope the flow

We document the systems, data and approvals involved in your invoicing.

02

Design the mapping

Fields, rules and exceptions are defined against PINT OM and Omani VAT rules.

03

Build and test

The connection is built and tested with real invoices, including the edge cases.

04

Run and monitor

After go-live, statuses and exceptions are monitored so nothing is missed.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: A Subscription Billing Platform

How a monthly subscription invoice is issued through the API.

See It in a Demo →
  1. 1 Invoice generatedYour platform generates the monthly invoice.
  2. 2 API call sentInvoice data is sent through the API with a unique reference.
  3. 3 Validated and convertedIt is checked and converted to PINT OM, and errors are returned at once.
  4. 4 Sent through your providerYour accredited service provider delivers it and passes the data to the OTA.
  5. 5 Callback receivedYour platform receives the final status and stores it.

WHY IT MATTERS

What You Gain

Ready on your phase date

Every in-scope invoice is issued in the PINT OM format from your go-live date.

Fewer rejections

Data is checked before it leaves your system, not after a buyer or the OTA flags it.

Ten-year archive

E-invoices are stored electronically, ready for audits and OTA requests.

Real-time feedback

Errors are known immediately, not days later.

Scales with volume

Handles growth and peaks without manual work.

Full control

E-invoicing fits into your own application logic.

FAQS

Common Questions

What format does the API accept?+

It typically accepts structured JSON or XML, which is converted to PINT OM. We agree the exact specification during design.

How do we know an invoice was delivered?+

Statuses come back through callbacks or polling, so your system always knows the final result.

Can the API prevent duplicate invoices?+

Yes. Each submission carries a unique reference, so retries do not create duplicates.

Which format do Omani e-invoices use?+

Fawtara uses PINT OM, the Omani specification of the Peppol International invoice model, exchanged as structured XML through an accredited service provider.

Can our system connect directly to the Oman Tax Authority?+

No. Under the five-corner model, e-invoices travel through an accredited service provider, which delivers them to the buyer and passes the tax data to the OTA.

How long does an integration take?+

It depends on your system, the number of invoice types and the quality of your data. We give you a dated plan after the assessment, working back from your Fawtara phase.
