OVERVIEW
Sohar is one of Oman's main industrial and logistics hubs. Sohar Port and Freezone host metals, petrochemicals, logistics and manufacturing businesses, and the wider region of North Al Batinah has a large base of contractors, traders and service companies supporting them.
Businesses in Sohar often have complex billing: export sales, freezone transactions, industrial services and large contracts. We map each scenario to PINT OM with the correct VAT treatment and connect your ERP to an accredited service provider, so you are ready for your Fawtara phase.
Under Ministerial Decision 189/2026, VAT-registered businesses with annual supplies above OMR 5 million go live on 1 April 2027 and all other VAT-registered businesses on 1 October 2027, after a pilot with around 100 selected companies that started in August 2026. Both B2B and B2C invoices are in scope, and e-invoices must be archived electronically for ten years.
Webtel supports businesses in Sohar remotely, with on-site visits where they help, such as workshops and go-live. We map your data to PINT OM, connect your systems to an accredited service provider and test real invoices, so you are ready on your phase date.

COMMON CHALLENGES
These are the issues we see most often. Each one is planned for from the start, so it does not surface in the week before go-live.
01
Freezone and export transactions need careful classification.
02
Contracts, service entries and rentals all create invoices.
03
Industrial companies often run SAP or Oracle.
04
Many large industrial firms go live in April 2027.
THE FAWTARA MODEL
Fawtara, the Oman Tax Authority's e-invoicing programme, uses a Peppol-based five-corner model. Invoices are issued in the PINT OM format and travel through an accredited service provider, which delivers them to the buyer and passes the tax data to the OTA. Invoices cannot be sent from an ERP directly to the OTA.
Step 1
In your ERP, accounting or billing system.
Step 2
Checked against PINT OM and Omani VAT rules.
Step 3
Your accredited service provider exchanges it over Peppol.
Step 4
Delivered to the buyer's own service provider and system.
Step 5
Tax data reaches the Oman Tax Authority through Fawtara.

Export and freezone sales classified correctly.
Remote support plus visits where useful.
